Ions In Candle Flame – Electricity and Candle Flame

Ions in Candle flame-Electricity and Candle Flame

Are there ions in candle flame? This experiments shows that we can find ions in candle flame. We are using two metal disks on voltage 20.000V. By phenomenon known as electric induction one disc is positively charged and other negative. We can see the flame separating in two parts positive and negative.

Another prof that there are ions in candle flame is in the second demonstration. Thanks to ions we can get bigger and longer sparks. With a charge 10.000V per centimetre we can get around 4 centimetres long spark. If there would be no ions the spark would be 1 centimetre long. The conclusion Is that candle flame is plasma containing ions.
